iPads in Middle School

Target Audience: Middle School Teachers

Pre-requisite: Some experience with the iPad and confidence in using technology

Program Description: So you’ve explored using the iPad in the classroom, but how do you deepen your application and turn it into an effective teaching and learning tool?

The modern world is becoming increasingly digitised and the potential for which computing technology can be used within the classroom to engage, and foster creative thinking, is higher now than ever before. Industry projections claim that by 2015, mobile tablet usage will overtake desktop computer usage and 80% of those accessing the Internet will be doing so via a mobile device. The iPad is at the forefront of the new e-learning shift and have been described as the next fundamental change in teaching and learning in the modern era.

During this one-day workshop, participants will:

·       Integrate strategies and iPad technologies effectively into their curriculum

·       Deepen their understanding in affordances/constraints of iPads & apps

·       Create and review effective applications for educators

·       Share knowledge on your own current implementation of iPads in the classroom

·       Leave with tools/strategies that could be used in the classroom in the next week or two

As this is a hands-on workshop, please note that participants need to bring their own, or a school, iPad with appropriate apps. Wireless access will be provided. Please ensure that you have access privileges to network settings to enable wireless access and installation of appropriate software. Please also bring a memory stick and the charging cord for the iPad.
